Ancient Optics, in conjunction with G.L. Optics, have developed a full set of fast, full frame, modern optics that are based on vintage Petzval optical designs.
Traditionally the Petzval focal lengths were only available in 58mm or 85mm. Through modification and applying modern rehousing techniques developed by G.L. Optics; the Ancient Optics Petzvalux Prime kit now offers five focal lengths, expanding the set both wider and longer, all matching in regards to character, sharpness, contrast and flare.
A very unique aspect to the set is the presence of a ‘3rd ring’ which allows the user to control many of the lenses characteristics, mainly spherical aberration.
This allows the user control over edge sharpness, fall-off and bokeh character. Each ‘3rd ring’ has 7 labelled marked presets allowing you to translate the setting of the ‘3rd ring’ across the set to achieve a consistent look.
All focal lengths cover full frame+ and each lens has 330-degree focus rotation, 15-blade circular iris with stainless steel LPL mounts.
