The Petzval lens design gives a central sharp area of focus through a very narrow field. The lens then progressively vignettes and drops off that is characterised by a swirl effect bokeh.

True Lens Service (TLS) have rehoused the Petzval lenses a modern cam driven focus system and chassis style lens housing that allows matte boxes and other accessories to be attached to the front of the lens, without affecting focus movements. The benefit of zero backlash and image shift give accurate dual focus scales that repeat on direction and change with the cam drive system, giving a wide spread of markings through the scale.

As the base lens was a stills lens, the TLS Petzvals covers full frame.
