ARRI ALEXA 35 4.6K Xtreme

The ARRI ALEXA 35 Xtreme is a major revision of the ARRI Alexa 35 line. The ALEXA 35 Xtreme introduces new hardware, option slow motion high frame rate and the introduction of the ARRICORE codec.

Based around the existing ALEXA 35 4.6K Super35 CMOS sensor, the ALEXA 35 Xtreme introduces the ability to record up to 330fps while maintaining the 17 stops of dynamic range.

The ALEXA 35 Xtreme is also able to achieve 660fps via the Sensor Overdrive mode utilising the new ARRICORE codec.

When selected, the Sensor Overdrive mode unlocks the maximum frame rate of the ALEXA 35 Xtreme prioritising frame rate by making trade-offs with dynamic range (decreasing by 6 stops in the highlights to 11 stops of dynamic range) and base ISO increases to 1600.

The ALEXA 35 Xtreme introduces ARRI’s next generation RGB codec titled ARRICORE.

Similar to ARRIRAW, ARRICORE retains the flexibility filmmakers expect from ARRI: combined with ARRI Look File 4 and ARRI Textures, it gives cinematographers full creative control from capture to final grade.

ARRICORE is not a RAW format: Debayering to RGB and compression take place in-camera. But ARRICORE retains essential postproduction flexibility by using ARRI’s REVEAL color pipeline. Therein exposure, white balance, and color tint are applied non-destructively during capture and can be changed in post.

The ALEXA 35 Xtreme offers backward compatibility for intercutting with ALEXA 35, ALEXA Mini, and AMIRA images, and the ALEXA Mini LF and ALEXA LF images may be processed via REVEAL to match your ALEXA 35 footage.

ALEXA 35 Xtreme retains the ARRI Textures that were introduced alongside the ALEXA 35 that allow you to alter the amount and character of grain in the image, and the amount of contrast at different levels of detail, perceived as sharpness. Previous ALEXA cameras were pre-programmed with a default texture, but ALEXA 35 & ALEXA 35 Xtreme lets you choose from a menu of ARRI Textures, like selecting a film stock.

ALEXA 35 Xtreme is approved to shoot NETFLIX 4k original content – the fourth camera in ARRIs line up to meet the requirements.
